Hi everyone, Salmon river is coming down to 750 cfs… over the weekend. Rule of thumb fishing is normally best two or three days after a water level change. Reports of catches threw out the river, but peppered. All tributary’s will start opening up and taking on fish as we warm into spawn. Rainbows and Browns will peel to the banks on Lake Ontario and feed on Steelhead eggs. Still Ice there!!! As weather warms should see better movement and more spots to fish. Water temps come up just a degree or two will trigger more spawn. Nice to see see spring start working it’s way in!! Bullhead and Perch aren’t to far behind soon as Ice makes it’s way out, not to mention Crappie as ponds and slips open up. A lot of spawn heading our way!! Most of these species will show and spawn all the way into May. Crappie’s in high elevations will spawn into June. I’m excited!! Bill a long time customer got his first Steelhead!! Great job!! Happy fishing!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Salmon river is running @ 1500 cfs… A long expected spring!! This is hopefully the last real cold front we are going to have. Temps are gonna give way and looks like more moderate fishing conditions for the Salmon river with much better consistency. High water or not fish are in spawn and we are starting to see that two way street of spawn and feed. Fresh fish in the lower with some fall backs and a few browns feeding, fish mid river working there way to the beds, and fish spawning on the upper. Nice to see lines in the water here in town and reports of hook ups threw out the river. All spring spawning fish will be in action soon!! I’m excited!! Time to get the old shop cleaned up as we spring into better fishing!! My inventory is thick for Steelhead, Crappie, Bullhead and Perch. I made a list of Ice fishing gear I’m looking to move. WOW sticker!!! Eskimo Quick flip 1 man 235$ Eskimo wide base fat fish pop up 2-3 man 225$ Frabill HQ 200 pop up 2-3 man 150$ Eskimo six, seven and eight inch hand augers 55$ each. Mora six, seven and eight inch hand augers 60$ each. Hi everyone, New York State Winter Classic wrap up for Salmon River Sports Shop!!! We really enjoyed hosting the Winter classic derby!! Our hats off to Tim Thomas who is in his second year running the competition. There’s a lot to it, I said when he approached the shop on being an official way-in station. We had over 200 way-ins including multiple entry’s from many of our regular customers. Our free good entry’s and early bird giveaways gave everyone a chance to win something even if they didn’t place or get a fish on the board. We didn’t want to see anyone that signed up at the shop go away empty handed. Something we always made sure of in our own sponsored derby’s. We had 32 entries from the shop and many did well. Jay Mahar on the last day entered a 16 pound Steelhead from our local waters and won the Steven Nielsen stainless trout sculpture. We were quick to google his work and WOW!! Jay also placed fifth overall. Jessie Rogers placed first in the female category with a 13.93 Northern Pike on one of our famous jumbo shiners. Jessie is a pike head and brought in three big one’s over 11 pounds. She placed 7th over all and took a weekly. Pat Bonville had the biggest Northern Pike from the shop weighed-in at 17.73 pounds. We had a hard time keeping that one on the scale!! We had to use one of our fish tubs!! Made a good laugh. Pat took third overall, lunker and weekly in Pike and Steelhead. The Steelhead was caught on our Jumbo Night crawlers right hear in town. Tight race in the Pickerel division with Derick Stoner placing third overall, lunker, and a weekly. Derick and James Simpson came in late looking for a station open. Real nice fish weighing in at 6.19 and 5.67 pounds. James ended up in sixth place. Old Bill Kinne took second in Pickerel, lunker, weekly in Nortnern Pike and 11 place overall. Bill gets the award for most pictures!! Lynn Thompson took a weekly with a walleye 11.78 pounds looking for a station open late. Matt Krebs out of the shop tied with Lynn for fifth and sixth place with a Walleye 12.05 pounds. Lynn had biggest overall fish Lake Trout weighing-in at Chaumont 21.85 pounds. Hunter Wojslaw took forth in the panfish division with a .91 pound Sunfish. My favorite category with hometown Jesse Horning winning a weekly at .68 pounds, that was a squeaker!! Tracy Delong won the shanty and automatic fishermen from the Winter Classic. Tom Smith and Lou Filippi won the make a customer awards from the shop!! So many I’m proud of everyone and great job!! I will be at the Nautical and Fishing Tackle Sale in Brewerton tomorrow with some great deals lots of goodies. The Shop is now open 5am to 8pm 7 days a week getting ready for spring. The Steelies are spawning!! Get Ready!!! srss j button

Hi Everyone, Ice Fishing shout out!! Ice Fishing Hotline… As we warm into the weekend most places have ice and will slush. Sandy Pond has Ice and is fishable. Best ice is on the South shore of North pond. ” Wig Wam” end… As we warm stay away from moving water!! Elms, Green point, and the rest of the North East end is thinner so will soften before the south end. Looks like will get a couple more days out of the pond but use caution as the weekend progresses. 8 days of warm weather ahead will push ice fishermen further north as the week goes on. Shore lines will take a pounding so I would recommend walking!! The Sportsmen’s Club fishing Derby is going as scheduled and are taking sign ins at Sandy Pond!! Salmon river is running @ 1100 cfs… with run off… river will come up and push fish to the banks. River is fishable but will change as the week warms. We will keep you posted as water levels increase. Everyone have a great weekend gonna be nice out and our door will be open!! Happy Fishing srss j button

Ice Fishing!! Nice to fish with my family today on green point Sandy Pond. My grand daughter Kloey May and friend Dominic first time on the ice. They loved it!!! A lot of action there for kids and they caught fish! My daughter Alexa and boyfriend Chris caught fish too. As for me I was just happy to see them excited!! Pike were passing by the holes but no takers. I spent more time telling stories and eating sandwiches but I got a few. We have to remind our selves fishing is just for fun and we had a lot of fun today. Everyone have a good work week!! srss j button
