Hi everyone, Salmon river is running @ 750 cfs… High water more fish!!! On a whole fishing the east end of lake Ontario is at its best over the last 3 to 4 weeks. High water pulls in bait fish and many fish. Reports have bin pouring in and several catches right up to today!! Browns on the banks in real good numbers, Atlantic Salmon in the lower half of the Salmon river, Steelhead here in town in good numbers, Small Mouth Bass in numerous locations, and Walleye hitting well in most Walleye spots. Not to mention Northern Pike, Crappie, and Large Mouth Bass pushing the banks with this high water. Brown trout come up close to feed and are a real sliver color out of there spawning months. Small Bass shiners will produce strikes just off shore under a plain old school casting bobber. Browns get mistaken often for Atlantic Salmon this time of year but Atlantic’s being of bigger size pull like logs and customers are snapping them off!! Here’s a few tips to look for if you get into an Atlantic Salmon. Vomerine teeth on the tongue, tale does not collapse and no spots. Atlantic’s have an x like pattern on there backs kinda looks like a flock of geese. We do encourage catch and release for we don’t get a big number of Atlantic Salmon. Pacific Salmon spawn and die Atlantic spawn and live!! All this good fishing my ass has bin “in the saddle” I’m hoping to get out Sunday afternoon and Crappie fish on a stormy day! Happy fishing srss j button

Hi everyone, Salmon river is running @ 750 cfs…. Every time I report a water level change when water comes down I think of the movie Wayne’s World “back on” A few locals out here in town, reported back hooking fish. Defiantly more fish then people!! May is probably one of the most prolific spawning months. Can you think what’s not in spawn? Brown’s, Domestic Rainbows and Pacific Salmon!! May one of my favorite months too fish. Walleye fishing is producing limits. Several reports despite docks under water. Walleye fishing is snotty and cold weather!! Lures, Worm harness, Buck tail Jigs and Live bait should be in your rotation. Water stays cold fishing stays good!! Weather is gonna start turning over and warm water fish will start picking up feed and spawn. Get fishing and happy fishing!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Salmon river is running @1800 cfs… Water level changes keeps putting fish in the lower half of the river. Atlantic Salmon, Steelhead, Brown Trout and Small mouth Bass. JUST GOT TO BE ABLE TO GET TO THEM!! Perch fishing is still going strong when fisherman can find those little windows to get on lakes, harbors and ponds. Cold temps are keeping them in and we are seeing spawning Perch from up north!! The old shop has bin pretty quiet do to the weather. Gave me a chance to tie up some Buck tail jigs for the opening of pike season. The shop is also stocked with live bait, Large Pike shiners, Bass shiners, Sixes ( Walleye minnow), Rosy reds, Fatheads, Large Fatheads, Small Fatheads, Night Crawlers, Leeches, Trout worms, Wax worms, Dillies, Salted minnows, Red Meal worms, Spikes, Mousses and Egg Sacs. Bait I will be stocking as it comes in Crayfish, Suckers and it’s cold enough for Buckeye’s if we can get our hands on them!! Do to the fact of a week Trout season this spring, mainly because of mother nature, Salmon River Sports Shop will remain open full time until further notice. I’ve bin putting in lures and worm harnesses for Walleye!! Bad weather means good Walleye fishing!!! Good luck!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Salmon river is running @ 500 cfs. Fishing!!! Better to best to even better!! Real nice catches on the lower half. With water down flies are picking up strikes. Bugs everywhere!! Stones, Nymphs, and Buggers should be in your rotation. Deeper pools on sunny days and fast water on over cast days, first lite last bite, to find fish!! Cooler Weather should hold fish up and feed. Fishermen with experience are getting into double digits. Great time to fish the river and get into some Steelhead making there way back to the lake. I’m busy in the shop getting ready for the Opening of Walleye!! The creeks are packed with spawners. They will start feeding in the shallows and feed back to the lake. The first two weeks of the season are usually best. Worm harnesses are a good way getting them on. The Sports Shop is stocked with live bait!! Happy fishing!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Salmon river is running @1650 cfs… Trout really picking up! If you haven’t had a chance to fish Now’s the time. We are riding into another storm system that will produce more movement. Some good catches over the last few days. Flies are hitting on the creeks and steams with the water down. We are running a lot of live bait but for fly fisherman San-won worms are producing strikes. Hopefully this bite will continue over the next couple of weeks as the fish return to the lake. Perch!! perch!! perch!! Nice to see a real good return on the east end of Lake Ontario this year. Almost to the point of fishermen getting tired of catching them!! Some have peeled of to chase after Crappie, Bullhead, White Perch which are spawning too and Rock Bass. Seeing that time were you can target several different kinds of FISH! All pics are from the last few days. Happy fishing!! srss j button

Hi everyone,Salmon river is running @1650 cfs… Solid reports of Steelhead being caught in the Salmon river mainly drift boats. More fish then people!! Peeling the banks, behind islands, side steams, mouths of creeks, feeder streams and back eddies are ware you’ll find fish. The Hatchery has taken on more fish which is always good news. Most of the fishing is up river!! Not much pressure on the lower half. Great time to take advantage of those seems tight to the banks threw town and they look good!! Local creeks have fish!! Now that there down to a moderate flow, locals have bin getting a few domestic trout. The best reports have bin on the lake pounding the banks for browns!! Perch fishing is real good most everyone getting limits. Jigs tied into a calf tail tipped with a minnows will produce strikes. Fish tails we use to call them tying the v shape to look like a fish tail. Crappie and Blue gills hit them too.
