Hi everyone, Water is running @ 500 cfs…Fishing has picked up!! Not great, but better then the last few weeks. Every day new fish have been coming in. Lower class fish 4 to 6 pounds some Steelies 8 to 12 pounds. Warm weather worms have produced some strikes. Red worms, Wax worms, meal worms can all be ran under a float!! Right up there with egg sacs, worms work!! The 3 inch bait worm real or fake has to be in your rotation. For fly fishermen we ty San wan worms in orange, blue, pink, and light brown. We also ty a worm tale that looks like a spike into an egg pattern. The kids call them smashers!! Reports of stone flies hanging onto egg sacs. We did have a hatch this weekend and we are a year round stone fly hatchery. Several baits and imitations you can try when trout are being finicky!! Worms In stock Night crawlers, red dug, wax worms, meal worms, dillies and soon to come butter worms. Other baits in stock, salted minnows, fatheads, spikes, leeches, and oak leaf grubs. Sometimes just changing up your baits gets Fish On!! Happy Fishing srss j button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 500 cfs…Steehead are in the river!! Tough bit for those who have been battling the leaves. Spurts of good fishing here and there but mainly working for them. Best reports are out of the pools! Pink bubble gum worms on a slow drift has produced catches. These Steelhead are a trout and sometimes finicky on a bit. Remember they don’t spawn and die, they have been here before. Steelhead return every year to feed and spawn in the spring. If I shocked these waters there would be more fish then you would think!!! Weather there biting are not is the question. Switching up baits, tipping light line, moving and slowing down presentation are all good tips when fishing hard for trout. I just got in a fresh batch of egg sacs in all assorted colors. Sometimes just changing to a color they haven’t seen will produce a strike. Keep working in Brown trout colors. Browns love brown!! We ty flies in several different shades of brown the milking egg biscuit is our favorite. Keep working hard and keep fishing you’ll get them!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 750 cfs… Higher water more fish? Rule of thumb water goes up fish come in. Remember we are on short days and fish like to move at night. Fishing deeper pools during the mid day has produced catches. Trout will move threw the first part of the river and hold up in the pools when the sun is shining. More fish then people!! Most everyone is hunting! A lot of river to cover with just a few lines in the water, but enjoyable not having to battle crowds. More pressure up river still a few Salmon moving threw. Locals like to call them Zombies!! There’s still some fresh Salmon working there way up river to spawn, fishermen have hooked a couple in town. Egg clusters and Sucker spawn are in your fly rotation. Representing a small cluster of eggs trout look for and feed on. Any of these patterns can be ran under a float in slow moving water or bottom bouncing under a fly rod. Suckers spawn in the spring but the pattern is well saut after in the fall that small egg cluster!! Happy hunting and fishing!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 500 cfs….Is there fish in the Salmon river? Not on every cast!! Fishermen working hard for Browns, Steelhead, Salmon and the occasional Rainbow trout got fish. Most hooked, seen or landed fish. Sticking on the river from dawn to dusk produced catches. Little pushes of Kings mixed with a few browns. Mid day late afternoon I saw movement three days in a row with some Steelies laying in the Town pool. Every day is a new day on the Salmon river and remember I’m right here teaching helping fishermen 16 hours a day. All fish are heading ONE WAY to spawn, feed or die. With a little bit of patience and determination you’ll catch fish. Brown’s tight in the skein with lake colors will move in to spawn and we have the water for them. Sometimes when there getting there spawning colors on the lower they will loosen, spawn and release back into the lake. There’s a whole spawning month ahead of us and the leaves aren’t off the trees. When we are battling leaves we are battling browns. We had our first cast and blast weekend!! Hunt one day fish the next makes for a ton of fun. Guides worked hard and did well. There was action on duck, Goose, Deer and fish!! My girlfriends brother got a ten point buck this weekend I’m waiting on a pic good job Andrew!!! Pics are from this weekend. Happy fishing!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 500 cfs…Good float water and fly water!! I have seen a couple nice catches. I feel float fishermen had the upper hand today on more of a natural feed. The Night crawler of Trout beads Glow row hit for some. Nice to see more rods in the water as the weather is starting to pan out in our favor. Mid day bite has been best!! The warmer weather should open up that window into longer feed. Salmon still a few here and there.. Got a big bucket of fresh eggs nice and loose well mature!! Check several spots and you’ll still come across them. A mixed bag on the lower but working for them. Browns, Steelhead and a few Salmon! One’s and Two’s mainly. Fly fishermen ran mainly glow bugs Steelhead Orange and Blue Estaz eggs. Pocket picking in slower moving kiddie size pools light drift with an indicator spurred on some strikes. The fishermen tipping down to 6 pound fluorocarbon got a few hits. To only think like a fish!! Get fishing there not gonna jump on your line there’s fish get after them. Happy fishing!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 500 cfs…Better water better fishing!! The storm we had over the weekend pulled in a lot of fresh King Salmon both river and tributary’s. Mainly up river from Pineville to the fly stretch!! A few fresh Salmon on the lower. If your thinking about getting your last licks in on Salmon now is the time. Were’s the Steelhead and Browns? Right in front of you!! The river has flipped over. We are riding on the first real cold front of the season and this will lock jaw the trout. We need to peel off the heavy line and tip down to 4 pound get them on first. Slow down presentation with fly line, floats, and indicators. Run smaller hooks tens and twelves during cold fronts. Ride the warm ups middle of the day look for sun to warm up the water and turn on feeding frenzies. These fish will get lethargic as there heart rate slows in colder water. Orange is the color of choice as they are here to feed on Salmon eggs. Browns will hit Night crawlers, dug worms, wax worms, and meal worms!! We have all these in stock!! We are bait savvy Leeches, Salted minnows, Spikes, fat heads and a few crayfish in stock. Ware out a pair of boots and Get fishing!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 1800 cfs….From one extreme to the other!! From low to high water makes it tough to fish the main river. The best places to fish are off the beating path! Back eddies, side streams, behind islands, creeks and behind or up to abutments. This high water will push fish in. Hopefully it will be down by the beginning of the week so we can get back on the main river. Drift boats are fine to run high water they can get into slow moving spots were people can’t. We are still stocking the store and getting ready for when the water comes down!! We have cut back to regular business hours 5am to 9pm We had a hell of a run and we aren’t done yet by any means. Fish are right up under your feet right off the banks find a slower moving spot and you will find fish!! Fish will rest right along the banks easy to hook harder to land. Browns love current and are coming into spawn we will keep an eye out for Browns. A big thank you to all that supported us this season and hope to see you soon for trout!! Happy fishing! srss j button

Update for the morning:

The normal, fast flowing sections of the river are apparently very rough conditions. There are a lot of Kings moving throughout and the guys that are hooking up have said it has been crucial all morning to have enough weight on your line. Always use caution when walking the river.

If you think the main stretch of the river might be a little to much right now, think about heading to the creeks. North and South Sandy have been giving us good reports and the tribs seem to be puffed up enough from the rain to hold fish

Just a reminder to everyone that while Waterline is reporting the flow at a normal 335 cfs, that only pertains to what is being released. We have to take into account the the rain and remember to use caution as always when fishing the river. The extra run off has picked the fishing up considerably in the fast water areas like the ballpark, and while the river is still very fishable, you may not be able to cross in areas that have been accessible all season. There are plenty of fish throughout the river and we hope everyone has fun and above all stays safe!
