Hi everyone, Water is running @ 335 cfs…Happy Thanksgiving!! A little break in the action with the storm and holiday. Gave me a chance to rest my bones and spend some time with my family. River looks good and is plenty fish-able. Bite is on the skinny but there’s fish. Domestic Rainbows are coming into spawn! All tributary’s off of Lake Ontario take fish. Could you imagine putting them all into one tributary? Sometimes we need to explore to find fish. Salmon River is always taking on new fish. Some days are better then others but we seem to under play the catch. Pushes of fish to spawn and feed continue all the way to may!! With snow on the ground I’m starting to think Ice fishing. Hi everyone, Water is running @ 185 cfs…. First King Salmon of the season brought in to Salmon river sports shop caught behind the store. Reports of fish hooked on the big wall, in the ballpark and Black hole. Not a big run by any means. Mostly locals fishing and spotting a few here or there. We are encouraging locals and fishermen not to far away to come out and see if they spot or hook one. Real good reports from the lake!!!! Still early tho and we have a few more hot days ahead. We are busy getting ready and hope to have a good year. Call 315 298 4343 for more info… Happy fishing srss j. button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 185 cfs. Hope everyone is having a good summer!!! Like we have done for years and we tell most, being a small family owned business does give us a break in the summer months. Not a lot of fish in the river at this time but my daughter Alexa has been dry fly fishing and picking up some small stream browns, looking for a nice size Atlantic!! My son Malcolm and I have been splitting some time in the canoe picking up a little bit of everything but mainly bass. The question on everyone’ s mind is will we have King Salmon and when will they get here? We never really know when or how many. The lake reports have been better of late reporting better size. We will keep a better eye on the lake as we creep closer to migration. We have been sending out lake trips from the store and so far the feed back has been positive. Lets stay optimistic and hope this years return is in better numbers. The store will be open August 15th 6am to 6pm and will take off from there. We have been busy getting ready and the hot line is open!! Happy fishing!!!! srss j. buttonIMG952016041995165631Vinny pics (2)IMG_8642

Hi everyone, Water in the river is running @ 1700 cfs. Reports of Steelies in most sections of the river. Real nice warm up next week should get fishermen thinking spring and spawn. Still lite numbers but there’s fish!! Just a reminder catch and release is always encouraged when fishery numbers are down! The creel limit on Steelhead is one fish 21 inches per day. Brown’s like to come up and feed on the Steely eggs on the lower half of the river during spring spawn. Brown trout was our strongest trout last fall and we do have them. Fishermen can also pick up browns in boats along the shore line and from the banks casting metal with flash. Brown’s like to comb the banks not only for eggs but bait fish as well. Drifting minnows in shallow water can sometimes be deadly in low current. Creel limit on Brown trout is three fish 15 inches per day. Note: Combinations are one Steelhead two Brown’s per Stringer per day. Domestic Rainbows will feed on eggs, minnows and flies. Domestics spawn in the fall and like to feed in the spring in several Lake Ontario tributary’s. The creel limit on Domestic Rainbows is one fish 21 inches per day. Note: Combinations are one Steelhead or one Rainbow per day. One rainbow two Brown’s per stringer per day. Our in land trout season opens April first. One more weekend of Ice fishing before warm weather sets in. The pond has 8 inches of good Ice. We always encourage safety!! Ice can be just as dangerous coming off as going in. Creek beds will open as current pushes the ice and ice will soften. Always carry safety spikes and a spud when ice fishing and look for soft spots. We have been getting a good response hosting the Crappie and Perch derby this weekend put on by Hagan homes, Skeeter’s guide service and Soco baits. The tanks are full of bait and the sign up sheet is growing. Looking for a great turn out and fishing fun!! srss jbutton

20160123_112955 Screenshot_2016-01-26-09-22-41-1Hi everyone, Sandy pond has made it threw another Rainy and windy warm up! I can say the pond has been resilient!! 8 to10 inches of ice with a lot of slush. Fishermen are picking up were we left off with a very good bite. Weather is going to warm over the weekend should make for some good catches. Perch is one species the Pond and other fisheries are producing numbers. Perch are feeding heavy on go beys. We grade down our minnows to get a little closer to the 2 inch size. Bigger male fatheads, small shiners and even small suckers around three inches can produce bigger Perch. The male fathead with a purple hue works the best. We grade down are shiners we call sixes that are 2 to 2.5 inches in a six grade. These minnows open up the door for Walleye, Bass and Perch. There flash helps attract fish and keeps smaller fish off. Mainly these baits are ran under tip downs. Spawning spring season is just around the corner and we are starting to stock supplies. We love those weeks when every thing seems to be hitting. Stop in and let us know how your doing! Spring hours will be 5am to 9pm 7 days a week. Happy fishing!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Water in the river is running@ 1200 cfs. With warm weather this weekend and shaping up to be fish able! Should push some nice trout to the banks. We are a high water fishery. Rule of thumb more water more fish easy to hook harder to land. These more frequent warm ups into spring spawn with warmer, longer, mid days is trout fishing at it’s best. Trout fishing has seem to pick up like most species on the east end of lake Ontario! But we are still working for them!! Some nice Walleye, Perch, Crappie, and Northern Pike. Some trout out of open creeks and the upper end of the Salmon river. We just stayed cold enough to stay on the ice close to home and various spots up North with a massive cold blast last weekend. Sandy pond is still producing catches. The shore ice in spots has taken a pounding but the main body is fine. Our bait tanks are loaded and we are ready for a fishing fun weekend!! Call the Ice fishing hot line 315- 298- 4343!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 350 cfs. Steelhead fishing has been better over this warm up. Water is going to 750 cfs tonight. This should bring in more fresh fish. Females are loaded with eggs and the next few warm ups we should see some spawning fish. Fly fishermen working the bottom with egg patterns produced some strikes. Wax worms under a float is the bait of choice in the deeper pools. When water warms fish move. Getting close to fast water sometimes picks up a better bite. Spring is a tough time to plan a trip. We are more then willing to give you free info on the best time to come. We checked Green point yesterday for ice conditions. There is 5 to 7 inches and the marina should be open. We are on the main pond it doesn’t look like much but fish able since Wednesday. The sportsmen club had there annual kids derby yesterday all had fun and there was some nice fish entered. The report on sandy pond as a whole the bite is slow. There is a good cold front coming soon and this should help some places that are struggling to get better ice. We put in some more lures and we are loaded with fresh minnows. Stop in and we will help you. Happy fishing!! srss j buttonsteelheadwaxworms20160124_072023

Hi everyone, Sandy pond is a little beat up from the storm it made it threw rain, wind and warm temps. Walked out 300 yards or so on the north east shore this afternoon. 5 to 6 inches of black ice 8 to 10 inches of crusty spots. Some holes were water has eroded from pressure cracks or prior drilling. The next couple of nights temps will be bellow freezing this will help sure it up and the shore line too. Always exercise caution and keep your eyes on the ice. I have loaded both minnow tanks and ordered some gear for the weekend. I am open 5am to 8pm the rest of the week 4am Saturday and Sunday. Fishing all around seemed to pick up!!! Several reports coming into this warm front lets hope the bite continues. We still have a lot of February ahead for fantastic fishing fun!! be safe!! happy fishing srss j button

Hi everyone, Checked Sandy pond right up to today. Still iffy!! 2 to 6 inches. Very spotty!! The North east shore has the better ice as you get out further. The South shore is running thin. Hopefully with this next cold front will make for better ice. Getting reports of fish being taken off Black lake and Big Bay! Be really care full if your planning to find some good ice. I’m just as excited as everyone else. We have to be patient and safety first. The river has a good flow and there is some nice fish in the river. The rivers, creeks and streams off lake Ontario are nice to target some trout on warmer days. Night crawlers with light line sometimes is just what you need to get them on. We have bait in stock!! Be safe and Happy fishing! srss j button
