Hi everyone, Water is running @ 335 cfs…Happy Thanksgiving!! A little break in the action with the storm and holiday. Gave me a chance to rest my bones and spend some time with my family. River looks good and is plenty fish-able. Bite is on the skinny but there’s fish. Domestic Rainbows are coming into spawn! All tributary’s off of Lake Ontario take fish. Could you imagine putting them all into one tributary? Sometimes we need to explore to find fish. Salmon River is always taking on new fish. Some days are better then others but we seem to under play the catch. Pushes of fish to spawn and feed continue all the way to may!! With snow on the ground I’m starting to think Ice fishing. Hi everyone, Water is running @ 185 cfs…. First King Salmon of the season brought in to Salmon river sports shop caught behind the store. Reports of fish hooked on the big wall, in the ballpark and Black hole. Not a big run by any means. Mostly locals fishing and spotting a few here or there. We are encouraging locals and fishermen not to far away to come out and see if they spot or hook one. Real good reports from the lake!!!! Still early tho and we have a few more hot days ahead. We are busy getting ready and hope to have a good year. Call 315 298 4343 for more info… Happy fishing srss j. button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 185 cfs. Hope everyone is having a good summer!!! Like we have done for years and we tell most, being a small family owned business does give us a break in the summer months. Not a lot of fish in the river at this time but my daughter Alexa has been dry fly fishing and picking up some small stream browns, looking for a nice size Atlantic!! My son Malcolm and I have been splitting some time in the canoe picking up a little bit of everything but mainly bass. The question on everyone’ s mind is will we have King Salmon and when will they get here? We never really know when or how many. The lake reports have been better of late reporting better size. We will keep a better eye on the lake as we creep closer to migration. We have been sending out lake trips from the store and so far the feed back has been positive. Lets stay optimistic and hope this years return is in better numbers. The store will be open August 15th 6am to 6pm and will take off from there. We have been busy getting ready and the hot line is open!! Happy fishing!!!! srss j. buttonIMG952016041995165631Vinny pics (2)IMG_8642

Hi everyone, Pike season opens mid night tonight !!! We will be open until 10pm tonight and 4am Saturday morning. THE SHOP IS LOADED WITH BAIT!!!! In stock!! night crawlers, trout worms, dillie worms, meal worms, wax worms, spikes, mousies, leeches, crayfish, pike shiners, golden shiners, suckers, rosy reds, buckeyes, fat heads, salted minnows and unsalted buckeyes. Our bait is fresh and ready to catch fish. Walleye has been one of the best fished species over all the last few years and right up to this past ice fishing season. Sandy pond, Oneida Lake, Oswego river, Henderson harbor, and many more fisheries have good size walleye. Northern pike are just about in very drink of water. Northern’s crush just about every thing but with colder water pike shiners work the best on there beds. Pickerel really a great eating fish, very bony, fun to catch and they do get up to six, seven pounds. We put in a selection of floating rapalas, worm harnesses, and spoons. Just enough to get started and we will add on as we go. Weather looks good and happy fishing!! srss j buttonIMG_0486424474_590989577585077_430832585_n1962853_822249307792435_25723514_n

Hi everyone, Water in the river is running@ 1200 cfs. With warm weather this weekend and shaping up to be fish able! Should push some nice trout to the banks. We are a high water fishery. Rule of thumb more water more fish easy to hook harder to land. These more frequent warm ups into spring spawn with warmer, longer, mid days is trout fishing at it’s best. Trout fishing has seem to pick up like most species on the east end of lake Ontario! But we are still working for them!! Some nice Walleye, Perch, Crappie, and Northern Pike. Some trout out of open creeks and the upper end of the Salmon river. We just stayed cold enough to stay on the ice close to home and various spots up North with a massive cold blast last weekend. Sandy pond is still producing catches. The shore ice in spots has taken a pounding but the main body is fine. Our bait tanks are loaded and we are ready for a fishing fun weekend!! Call the Ice fishing hot line 315- 298- 4343!! srss j button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 350 cfs. Steelhead fishing has been better over this warm up. Water is going to 750 cfs tonight. This should bring in more fresh fish. Females are loaded with eggs and the next few warm ups we should see some spawning fish. Fly fishermen working the bottom with egg patterns produced some strikes. Wax worms under a float is the bait of choice in the deeper pools. When water warms fish move. Getting close to fast water sometimes picks up a better bite. Spring is a tough time to plan a trip. We are more then willing to give you free info on the best time to come. We checked Green point yesterday for ice conditions. There is 5 to 7 inches and the marina should be open. We are on the main pond it doesn’t look like much but fish able since Wednesday. The sportsmen club had there annual kids derby yesterday all had fun and there was some nice fish entered. The report on sandy pond as a whole the bite is slow. There is a good cold front coming soon and this should help some places that are struggling to get better ice. We put in some more lures and we are loaded with fresh minnows. Stop in and we will help you. Happy fishing!! srss j buttonsteelheadwaxworms20160124_072023

Hi everyone, Sandy pond is a little beat up from the storm it made it threw rain, wind and warm temps. Walked out 300 yards or so on the north east shore this afternoon. 5 to 6 inches of black ice 8 to 10 inches of crusty spots. Some holes were water has eroded from pressure cracks or prior drilling. The next couple of nights temps will be bellow freezing this will help sure it up and the shore line too. Always exercise caution and keep your eyes on the ice. I have loaded both minnow tanks and ordered some gear for the weekend. I am open 5am to 8pm the rest of the week 4am Saturday and Sunday. Fishing all around seemed to pick up!!! Several reports coming into this warm front lets hope the bite continues. We still have a lot of February ahead for fantastic fishing fun!! be safe!! happy fishing srss j button

Hi everyone, WE HAVE BAIT!! Loaded the big tank and we are now selling minnows by the pound and spikes by the thousand!! We have in stock Black back Pike shiners large and small, Suckers large and small, Purple shine fatheads, Rosy reds, buckeye’s, spikes, Mouses, wax worms, oak leaf grubs, night crawlers, egg sacs and baby bass shiners heartier then a buckeye. My minnow tanks are large capacity and constantly replenish not a refuge witch most tanks are creating bacteria. The water temp is maintained @ 36 degrees just enough to hold healthy minnows. Give your minnows a pinch of salt once in a while helps keep there scales firm. Sandy pond is producing catches. Mainly enough for a meal. Charmount has been the best reports for perch and Walleye. Still hearing Big bay producing catches. A lot of smiling faces this weekend!! Happy fishing srss j buttonwaxwormsice fishingindex

Hi everyone, The last few days on Sandy pond has produced some nice catches,Walleye, Perch, Crappie and Northern Pike!! The Walleye in the picture is from North Sandy pond caught yesterday. Remember Sandy pond is a tributary of Lake Ontario. When the water is right and the channel is open Sandy pond will take on migrating fish. With the rain we got in December the east end of Lake Ontario took on better numbers of Perch. Should help us threw ice fishing to get better catches. Chaumont,Sachets Harbor, Henderson Harbor, Oneida Lake are all Walleye producers. The best eaters come out of Oneida lake more of them but a little smaller. Salmon river flow is@ 750 real good flow pushing back the banks and keeping shelf ice at bay. For those of you who travel to fish for both what a rewarding weekend catching trophy Walleye on the ice and trophy trout in the river. I’m loading my big tank with minnows today and getting ready for a fishing 1962853_822249307792435_25723514_nfun weekend. We appreciate everyone’s business! Happy fishing srss j button

walleye fishing in the upper res has been pretty steady by the bridge over the past few days. casting stick baits and jigs has been doing well. black and purple and white jigs has worked well. as far as sticks  black and silver, blue and silver and rainbow trout in a f9 rapala has been real good. when we are fishing there we like to run a 10 lb braided main line and down to a 6 lb fluorocarbon leader. depth has been all over the place from 10 to 30 foot of water. another less used tactic is to run a minnow under a slip float that works pretty well when the stick baits and jigs aren’t working. We just got a fresh order of bait in today minnows and crayfish..
