Hi everyone, Water is running @ 185 cfs…. First King Salmon of the season brought in to Salmon river sports shop caught behind the store. Reports of fish hooked on the big wall, in the ballpark and Black hole. Not a big run by any means. Mostly locals fishing and spotting a few here or there. We are encouraging locals and fishermen not to far away to come out and see if they spot or hook one. Real good reports from the lake!!!! Still early tho and we have a few more hot days ahead. We are busy getting ready and hope to have a good year. Call 315 298 4343 for more info… Happy fishing srss j. button

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 185 cfs. Hope everyone is having a good summer!!! Like we have done for years and we tell most, being a small family owned business does give us a break in the summer months. Not a lot of fish in the river at this time but my daughter Alexa has been dry fly fishing and picking up some small stream browns, looking for a nice size Atlantic!! My son Malcolm and I have been splitting some time in the canoe picking up a little bit of everything but mainly bass. The question on everyone’ s mind is will we have King Salmon and when will they get here? We never really know when or how many. The lake reports have been better of late reporting better size. We will keep a better eye on the lake as we creep closer to migration. We have been sending out lake trips from the store and so far the feed back has been positive. Lets stay optimistic and hope this years return is in better numbers. The store will be open August 15th 6am to 6pm and will take off from there. We have been busy getting ready and the hot line is open!! Happy fishing!!!! srss j. buttonIMG952016041995165631Vinny pics (2)IMG_8642

Hi everyone, Water is running @ 350 cfs. Steelhead fishing has been better over this warm up. Water is going to 750 cfs tonight. This should bring in more fresh fish. Females are loaded with eggs and the next few warm ups we should see some spawning fish. Fly fishermen working the bottom with egg patterns produced some strikes. Wax worms under a float is the bait of choice in the deeper pools. When water warms fish move. Getting close to fast water sometimes picks up a better bite. Spring is a tough time to plan a trip. We are more then willing to give you free info on the best time to come. We checked Green point yesterday for ice conditions. There is 5 to 7 inches and the marina should be open. We are on the main pond it doesn’t look like much but fish able since Wednesday. The sportsmen club had there annual kids derby yesterday all had fun and there was some nice fish entered. The report on sandy pond as a whole the bite is slow. There is a good cold front coming soon and this should help some places that are struggling to get better ice. We put in some more lures and we are loaded with fresh minnows. Stop in and we will help you. Happy fishing!! srss j buttonsteelheadwaxworms20160124_072023

Give your minnows a pinch of salt once in a while helps keep there scales firm. Sandy pond is producing catches. Mainly enough for a meal. Charmount has been the best reports for perch and Walleye. Still hearing Big bay producing catches. A lot of smiling faces this weekend!! Happy fishing srss j buttonwaxwormsice fishingindex

Throughout the state of New York you can find waters with populations of sunfish, including bluegill, pumpkinseed sunfish, rock bass, white bass, white perch and yellow perch.

One or more species of sunfish populate virtually all warm water streams, ponds and lakes throughout New York, and around the world for that matter. They can survive in waters that provide their natural food source of minnows, insects, crustaceans and worms. Their competitive nature amongst themselves, for food, makes them relatively easy to catch. Panfish are prolific spawners and repopulate the waters as fast as they are harvested. A common problem with panfish fishing is that the waters are under-fished causing panfish to overpopulate. As a result they tend to stay small in size due to lack of food source. places like sandy pond, lakeview, and oneida lake are great places to take the kids and get of panfish

Oneida lake has picked up for white perch over the past few weeks. been finding them in with the yellow perch in closer to shore right now. sylvan beach area has been doing well. Jigs tipped with a minnow. White perch resemble a white bass without stripes. They have a silvery color with longitudinal lines along their bodies and usually travel in large schools. Although white perch spawn from April through June, some anglers believe they spawn at different times throughout the year. You can catch white perch in both saltwater and freshwater. White perch usually measure 7 to 12 inches and weigh between 0.5 and 1 lb. Anglers enjoy catching them because they fight aggressively for their size and because they taste good.
