20141005_103427_resizedHi Everyone, Water is running@185 cfs. Still getting reports of fish being caught out of the lake. Some wind this weekend made for tough fishing. Looking for some rain this week and a little bit of a cool down. Mite put fish in closer to the river. Most are reporting 250 to 300 feet. River reports from the lower half spotting a few fish out of the estuary. Route 3 bridge is a good place to see early fish. Douglaston Salmon run is reporting a few   early fish. Mostly locals fishing and looking for the first catch of the year. Haven’t heard or seen any fish hooked as of yet. We like to call these early fish freight trains these kings like to blow threw the deeper pools and splash and thrash in the fast water. Purple and dark red are great aggravating colors tied into a Freight train, Purple Peril, Thor, and Red Weenie. Plenty of hook clearance and dark shadow presentation. These flies are traditional Pacific and Atlantic Salmon flies. If your not to far away and would like to come out and walk the river and maybe spot a fish or two, now is a good time. Most are foaming at the mouth and waiting for the big numbers.  alexa  The Salmon River Sports Shop crew starts this week. Alexa Button will be back to help out a few days threw the season. Alexa is a veteran in the shop and tied flies for Ron Gervaise, many years as a youngster. Alexa is presently going to school to get her R.N. nursing degree and stays busy chasing around my grand daughter Cloey May which is already catching blue gill at the age of 5. Zana Gervaise is back again.zana1 (2)Zana will be heading up the fly tying section of the store. Zana has been busy stocking Estaz flies and working at a sports store in Syracuse. Also will be returning to collage over the course of this up coming year. Zana has replaced Malcolm Button as my primary fly tier. Malcolm has been working at several fairs for his summer job and is getting ready to return to collage this fall as an artist. He will be misted this season.

markMark Epding has been with the sports shop for 5 years. mark writes most of the fishing reports because he is on the river most days. Mark has been busy riding his new motorcycle this summer. mark will start fishing the river tomorrow from the town pool down to the black hole and will report if he see’s any fish. Mark has plenty of knowledge and is an expert on the spooler.

We are looking forward to a good season and starting to stock terminal tackle for anyone that wants to get a early start we are open 7 days a week from 6am to 6pm for now. Call 315-298-4343
